Comrades Marathon House

Description : The Comrades Marathon, an ultra distance foot race of nearly 90 km run annually between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, was founded by Vic Clapham in 1921 as an inspirational memorial to those who served in the Great War of 1914-1918. From its humble beginnings in 1921 with a field of 34 competitors it has grown to attract some 14000 runners each year and strives to preserve a balance between an international ultra marathon sports event of world class, and a Comrades Marathon Festival celebrating the triumph of mankind`s spirit in Comrades Marathon as a jubilee sports event.
Locality : From the centre of town and Publicity House travel straight down Commercial Road towards Durban, past the YMCA, and up Durban Road. Turn left at St. Alpheges church (opposite 50 Durban Road) into Connaught Road. Comrades Marathon House is easily accessible from the N3. Take the New England Road off-ramp (Exit No 77) and continue down New England Road towards the City. Connaught is the second on the left after the second robot and is signposted Comrades Marathon House.
